Founded in 1996 as part of a multinational operation, WorldxChange Communications made an immediate impact on the telecommunications industry in New Zealand. From day one the company has set the pricing standard by which others are judged. Now a 100% NZ owned venture (since 2001), WorldxChange Communications continues leading the way with the same management and operations team that started it all.

    Giving up on Xnet

    THE GOOD:

It's been reliable for approx 5+ years

    THE BAD:

As soon as we switched to a new plan (which their sales reps convinced us would be more value for money) our usage inflated to almost double what we'd normally use. Funny that. Also, our speed reduced and it is ridiculously slow now!

    THE BOTTOM LINE:

I used to recommend Xnet two years ago, but not now. They used to be great, great service, value for money, awesome speeds but not anymore! It's terrible. Inflating usage and slower speeds make it a total rip off.

    REVIEW:

I'm on the Fusion 60 plan. The rep told us we never go over 60GB a month so we'd be safe on this plan. Well what do you know, soon as we change to it, all of a sudden we're using over 100GB! Even though our usage has not changed.
Don't even get me started on the slow speeds. I used to be able to download/upload with no problems at all, now it's gone to speeds you would've expected just after high speed internet was introduced!

    Stay Away From Xnet

    THE GOOD:

Their customer service is satisfactory. I have only threatened to file a formal complaint once. But due to my complaint being handled immediately, I decided not to follow through

    THE BAD:

If you have VoIP with Xnet, don't even think about surfing the net & talking on the phone at the same time, unless you know how to translate scuba-diver sounds

    THE BOTTOM LINE:

For an average daytime user it's fine, but forget about using it at night

    REVIEW:

As of Jan 2013, Xnet has been throttling my speed every night around 7pm and it gradually gets slower and slower

    At 1:56am I decided to test my Xnet and Vodafone 3G speed on TestMySpeed.com. The results are astounding;
    Xnet: Download Speed = 0.3 Mb/s & Upload Speed = 0.58 Mb/s
    Vodafone 3G (iPhone): Download Speed = 1.35 Mb/s & Upload Speed = 0.89 Mb/s

Seriously 0.3 Mb/s at nearly 2am? I thought my 3G connection was slow, but 0.3 Mb/s? Xnet is insanely slow.
I guess it's because torrent users are at their peak around this time, but for a person like myself who has been loyal to this company for nearly 6 years, has an average bill of $180 a month (until they finally offered to reduce it last Nov), I would expect far better service than a measly 0.3 Mb/s

I have an iPad and I like to read online before I sleep, I like to watch YouTube before I sleep, I like to be connected to the freakin Internet before I sleep, but its not possible with ridiculous speeds of 0.3 Mb/s!

Xnet gives my "speed allowance" to their other customers because I should be sleeping during their "torrent" hours. Well I'm not asleep! In fact, I'm wide awake and p!ssed off, hence my "Stay Away From Xnet" review! This throttling makes me feel low priority and insignificant

Sorry Xnet, I'm giving you the "flick". I would rather pay $150-190 a month and know I have reliable internet 24/7

    Signed: Getting Rid Of Xnet!

    Xnet, I'll be seeing you

    THE GOOD:

They WERE the only guys offering an unlimited or capped service when I signed up but now there's a lot of competition and they don't seem to give a sh1t if I stay or leave! Uhm, yeah, I'll just be leaving, then...

    THE BAD:

Their customer support and billing dept seems to be in the dark completely. Or the dark ages at any rate. I'm an IT professional that uses on site broadband in people's homes often. Coming home is always a disappointment- my speeds are rubbish.

    THE BOTTOM LINE:

I'm just tired of their raggedy-arsed office work more than anything. Reminders that my bill is still not paid 2 weeks after I paid in full was funny for a while but now just makes me sigh. And trying to get any info out of their sales dept is like a game. I know more about their business than they do and that's not a good look for a salesman. I just called and asked what the chances of them offering fibre optic as I'm either gonna upgrade and get that from them or else go wherever I can get it. Nothing. Some mumbled bullshot about not yet and " maybe later this year" (no idea whe)n just made me depressed for them. The reviews in here speak louder than bombs I'm afraid. Have had mates leave xnet after being cut off waaaay too early ( coming back from holiday!) etc. and always stuck with them- i thinkmive felt sorry for them! sorry Xnet- the game has moved on. You have not. There are hungry competitors out there that do everything better than you. I'll be seeing you. In the business pages, going under no doubt.

    REVIEW:

I live in central auckland, have their Fusion Plus plan with a 40 gab cap that I sometimes go over- on average I pay around $100 a month fr an IP phone line and ultra slow broadband - never much over 10mbps and usually just under that.

    NEVER USE XNET.

    THE BAD:

Customer Services and Tech Support are absolutely rubbish.

    THE BOTTOM LINE:

They are just a complete joke. Wouldn't recommend to anyone.

    REVIEW:

NEVER USE XNET. They are just a complete joke. We were with them for 2 years before we moved into another house. Similar to Vicky's experience, it took us 3 weeks with at least 3 phone calls a day to tech support to get connected in the new house. We've had 4 technicians come out and now Xnet have the cheek to send us a bill for the technicians after all the hassle we've had just to get internet and VOIP working. As it took us 3 weeks, that technician fee should definitely have been waived. Customer Services and Tech Support are absolutely rubbish and some people in there were downright ignorant on the phone. Tech support don't have a clue about anything, i.e. telling us that the reason our internet wasn't working was because our house is fitted with Ethernet jacks rather than the normal phone jacks in the wall. Also telling us we needed to get an electrician out instead of Chorus. When we did that, the electrician said we needed a telecommunications technician from Chorus, not an electrician. Chorus technician just laughed at how stupid they're recommendations were when I told him! He also confirmed that Xnet were very wrong about the Ethernet jacks, told me that wouldn't make any difference. He was convinced it was Xnet that probably hadn't connected the house at all. Anyway, I've had enough of their poor service. I'm moving to a new provider and never to look back. Has been an absolute nightmare with Xnet. Wouldn't recommend to anyone. Not even worth one star for any of the ratings!

    THE BAD:

I have a 18Mbps down line sync and a 1mbps upload sync and struggle to break 2Mbps speeds.

    Better deals are out there.

    REVIEW:

Download speeds are ho hum, major throttling going on to conserve bandwidth. I have a 18Mbps down line sync and a 1mbps upload sync and struggle to break 2Mbps speeds. I work in IT so I have never called the helpdesk other than for obvious stupid faults that they have caused and I have always thought they were a bit cold. I guess they don't like it when a customer schools them. Better deals are out there and you actually get your full download speed.

    I can't fault xnet.

    THE GOOD:

support was awesome and when you call them you even get to speak to a real person!!

    REVIEW:

I can't fault xnet. Been with them for years. Only had two issues, neither were xnet's fault and the support guys were great. The first prob turned out to be a faulty router and the guys sent me a new router to try, which I ended up buying. The second problem was a couple of weeks ago and turned out to be a line fault on the street somewhere. Again the support was awesome and when you call them you even get to speak to a real person!!

    THE GOOD:

    Techs are polite

    THE BAD:

Some mornings internet won't even load metservice.

    REVIEW:

Been experiencing the throttled speeds during off-peak times for torrents (I am, like Andrew, also on the fusion torrent plan). We have tolerated the 60kB/s speeds for offpeak since it is "free offpeak". Lately, this speed has gone down to 20kB/s coupled with inflated data usage reporting. Some mornings internet won't even load metservice; and if you loaded 2 or 3 websites at a time you'd be in for a wait. Forget running speedtest, it won't load. Have contacted them a few times, they have denied any throttling or shaping, they cannot explain the data usage during offpeak time (30% inflated) saying someone must be piggybacked off our connection. (But not showing discrepancy during regular hours...) Techs are polite enough but unhelpful, and i suspect, not upfront. For the amount I am paying for data+flatrate (approx 50 to 60$/mo) I am now researching other providers. Slower speed is one thing, inflated data usage and not trying to help or even investigate is another.

    REVIEW:

I am sure that xnet are inflating our data usage as we now never reach the end of the month with any left, which was never an issue in the past (we aren't downloading more or anything like that). Additionally, when we were about to relocate, we phoned to let them know and organised a connection at our new address for the day we were to move in - this was agreed to. The very same day our internet connection was disabled (at our old address) and it tool a MONTH to get the connection back up at our new address. I was studying a university paper online during this time and they still refused to help - we never received an apology/refund etc....disgusting service!

there is no way I'm blaming the speed on Xnet.

    REVIEW:

I have been with XNet for the past 2 years on their Fusion Torrent plan and have had no problems at all. The connect has been solid and the VoIP really clear and cheap. The connection speed in NZ is poor in general so there is no way I'm blaming the speed on Xnet. There are providers that charge less for on-peak data but who can complain with 75GB worth of off-peak data each month?
