User's Rating:

The internet is at the heart of everything we do at Orcon – from providing broadband services to homes and businesses across the country, to a raft of hosting and domain services. The first company in New Zealand to unbundle the local loop and the first to provide Ultra Fast Broadband services, Orcon offers quality products, backed by outstanding service.

    TOTALLY USELESS OUTFIT

    THE GOOD:

    Northing

    THE BAD:

The worst experience I have ever had with a copmany in NZ
Lousy service, helpdesk useless, won't let you use your KIA ORA card for cheaper toll calls, the list goes on. Threatend with a debt ccollection agency for an o/due account which I never received. NBG

    THE BOTTOM LINE:

The only recommendation I would give is to avoid these money grabbers at all cost.

    REVIEW:

Living in Northland may have been a very bad choice seeing this company seems to service mainly Auckland

ugh - average speeds, awful problem response time

    THE GOOD:

they call you back when you using mobile number, no contract options

    THE BAD:

1.5 weeks at speeds of 0.45Mbps - populated residential area. When all is good then I get max 8Mbps. Troubleshooting hours to prove there is problem. No response - no-one gets back to you

    THE BOTTOM LINE:

Not much competition out there these days. So speeds will always be the same no matter who you choose. +/- their - So essentially it comes down to price and customer service. I like that I could get not contract.

I am done with them b/c of how Orcon handled issues on my line. Took them forever to respond and when I called their update was - oh its with level 2 support.

    Terrible

    THE GOOD:

When it worked, i had internet.

    THE BAD:

They dont care about anything but there pockets. Customer service is non-existent. Fast to sign you up- Slow to help if you have a problem. Expect waiting times of up to 1.5hours

    THE BOTTOM LINE:

DO NO SIGN UP - ORCON ARE AN ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE ISP. NOT JUST THE WORST IN NZ, POSSIBLY EVEN THE WESTERN WORLD.

    Incomprehensibly Terrible

    THE GOOD:

    Good Speed.

    THE BAD:

    Everything.
The call centre is a joke.
    Constantly having to reboot router.
Every second reboot also requires factory reset.
Call centre doesn't tell the truth.

    THE BOTTOM LINE:

Dont touch with a barge pole.
3 hours on the phone last night is the last straw.
Still waiting, 5 months later for the promised credit for bad service.

    REVIEW:

This is my first ever review, I am so motivated to help other people avoid this terrible company. On one occasion, I had to go to their office and corner engineers in their case and berate them to fix my internet.

    ABSOLUTELY AWFUL

    THE GOOD:

$75 per month is reasonably manageable. That is the SINGLE half-decent thing about orcon

    THE BAD:

260 characters? I could write a book here. Genius phoneline is meant to work thru internet, cuts out at least weekly and when i call them they say nothing is wrong. Tried to change name on account and they disconnected us and tried to charge us for doing so.

    THE BOTTOM LINE:

I have never experienced such rude customer service, especially from people who have trouble communicating in English. Had to go through 3 departments just to change the name on the account and ended up getting charged for switching primary account holders. Genius modem is dreadful, download speed is painfully slow, phone cuts out, sometimes during calls. I want to voice my real opinion but wouldn't want to offend anyone with my language.

    REVIEW:

Genius homephone and broadband package - supposed to be $75 per month, always ends up being around $83 (without explanation). In Hamilton, where fibre is rolled out already and they want me to pay for any damage the installers may do to my pathway if they have to dig it up - they are only willing to pay for grass seeding. Appalling customer service, not polite or helpful in any way AND you have to suggest the solution to them because they cannot figure it out for themselves! This may seem a little strong but I HATE ORCON. Stay away from them at all costs! I would love to jump ship but can't afford the $199 they want as an early termination fee.

    Overall very happy with Orcon

    THE GOOD:

I have found the speed to be really good. I have their VOIP phone line and can still make and receive calls even while watching videos online or downloading without quality loss.

    THE BAD:

Nothing really to say here, my experience has all be good.

    THE BOTTOM LINE:

I would recommend their services for sure. I have unlimited broadband and a VOIP line and all at a pretty great cost. I was previously using xnet and was paying a lot more for the same amount of data. After I moved to Orcon a deal came up to move to unlimited data for the same price which was a no brainer.

    REVIEW:

$99 a month for unlimited data and a VOIP line. I have 2 portable phones connected to one base station which is connected directly to the modem Orcon provided. I live in Howick and find the speed to be really good.

    Happy so far

    THE GOOD:

We were connected on the day we asked for, and my Internet connection or fail of was on my part, although I thought the tech support would have picked up what the problem was and didn't seem very interested so I sorted it out myself. Speed good, phone good.

    THE BAD:

My first contact with tech support was so bad I couldn't understand the person so she hung up. I phoned at a different time of day and got someone who could speak English and did good.

    THE BOTTOM LINE:

We have been with Orcon in the past and hope to stay happy with them long into the future.

Good product, not cheap, Disgusting Customer Service

    THE GOOD:

Never had a problem with their product, works and is fast.

    THE BAD:

We changed addresses six months ago and got the worst customer service I've ever experienced anywhere. In spite of giving them 3-weeks notice, they cut our old address two days before we left and it took 9 days to get connected after 14 calls to find out why.

    THE BOTTOM LINE:

"The Bad" was only a portion of what we've experienced with Orcon in the past 6-months. They changed us to another plan without notification, we were overcharged for three months. While their "product" - data speed etc is OK, the rest of this company sucks big time. And their new CEO says they have good customer service!

If I didn't have to deal with their customer service I would stay when our contract is up - I might, but dread having to contact them again to change to another plan. I had to give them 0.5 of a star for customer service, because this form wouldn't let me leave it at "0" as I wanted to.

And this review was placed 6-months after I've had my last contact with their customer service. I'm still stewing.

    REVIEW:

Absolutely disgusting bad customer service, impersonal, couldn't care less attitude. They will not esculate a problem if you want to talk to someone else, and when I couldn't understand one operator and asked to speak with someone whose accent was easier to understand she just cut me off and I had to redial and wait another 15-20 minutes.

The worst customer service I have ever experienced

    THE GOOD:

Absolutely nothing they are a disgrace- never in my life have I experienced such appalling customer service

    THE BAD:

Happy to take your money but when you have an issue or when you try to change provider the real nightmare starts.Offshore call centre is the worst we have ever experienced- absolutely dont care and no accountability

    THE BOTTOM LINE:

    DO NOT GO TO ORCON

    REVIEW:

We took on Orcon issue from my student daughter who had become totally stressed dealing with Orcon. She has a mobile phone but spent hours repeatedly trying to deal with their customer noservice (no mistake in spelling)- who would simply cut her off if they couldnt answer her query after hanging on for hours being passed from pillar to post.So we took over because the worry was making her ill.I have never seen my husband SOOO angry as he is a placid man.She only wanted to change internet provider and I suppose she therefore didnt matter to them anymore.I will not go into detail because I could write a book about the catalogue of ineptitude and rudeness, but in short the offshore call centre is a nightmare. The usual operators have no authority to make decisions and know nothing and if you ask to speak to a supervisor or manager they say 'NO' !!!! they are busy with workload. Our battle on her behalf continues.
