The internet is at the heart of everything we do at Orcon – from providing broadband services to homes and businesses across the country, to a raft of hosting and domain services. The first company in New Zealand to unbundle the local loop and the first to provide Ultra Fast Broadband services, Orcon offers quality products, backed by outstanding service.

As a long time ORCON customer

    THE GOOD:

As a long time ORCON customer I had been reasonably satisfied

    THE BAD:

Signed up for genius. The service stopped 3 times in the first four weeks and had to be rebooted

    THE BOTTOM LINE:

I think their Call Centres have been outsourced to Mumbai ORCON is failing badly lately

    REVIEW:

As a long time ORCON customer I had been reasonably satisfied. Then we signed up for genius. The service stopped 3 times in the first four weeks and had to be rebooted. Fair enough simple to do. On the fourth occasion (Thursday) it would not restart. After an hour and a half on the phone the orconman said the GENIUS is stuffed. He would get a technician to call me. Friday they called and said a technician would call tomorrow Saturday. Sure enough he called and showed up 5 minutes later he said your genius is stuffed. Oh it's worth mentioning with Genius down you have nothing. NO PHONE so Monday they said they will send a new unit. On thursday it arrived and we were back up again. So I had to chase them a few times for a credit and in the end they reluctantly agreed. Quote " Broadband is not gauranteed to be a fault free or continious (sic) service and this is why the credit that has been applied has been done so as a sign of Goodwill" Goodwill my arse, $15 for no phone or internet for a week. So the new Genius has been working OK but now they have billed us $31 for National calls and we are on a National Calls included Plan. They replied "you can check your usage on www.orconblahblahblah. I think their Call Centres have been outsourced to Mumbai ORCON is failing badly lately.

    Utter rubbish!!

    THE BAD:

After giving Orcon 10 days notice of a move, they did nothing in preparation

    THE BOTTOM LINE:

    I blame VERY poor management.

    REVIEW:

Utter rubbish!! after giving Orcon 10 days notice of a move, they did nothing in preparation. When we moved, an old line was apparently still active on the new house. Orcon said that they had "connected" but the old line needed to be abandoned by the other service provider, whihc I Had to ask them for. after the other provider told me that it should be teh new provider that requests teh abandonment, I am starting to wonder if Orcon is just jerking me around. SURELY this should be a standard procedure, as not every person moving out asks their provider to close their account? This is bread and butter stuff man!! A week and half after the move, 10 calls later (each waiting 10-20 minutes boefore a human answer) still nothing. And yes, every time I call - a different person to talk to, who I have to explain everything to again, who knows nothing about what happened last time, and who tell me stuff that I told them before. Nobody that actually takes charge and takes personal responsibility for clearing up the fault. I blame VERY poor management. Telstraclear here I come.

    Customer services are incapable

    THE BAD:

Customer services are incapable of handling anything beyond basic questions

    REVIEW:

Customer services are incapable of handling anything beyond basic questions. Technical support are beyond slow and don't like communicating with customers. I raised issues with their hosting speed months ago but they fobbed me off with excuses. Finally they admit that there is a problem but they're not going to do anything about it for another 2 months!

    Firstly..

    THE BAD:

Don't expect to get anyone on the line for at least 30 mins

    THE BOTTOM LINE:

STAY AWAY. Even Telecom are better than these guys!

    REVIEW:

Firstly, don't expect to get anyone on the line for at least 30 mins, even when calling in the morning, and It can be an hour easily. Secondly, the guys on the phone are a real coin toss as to whether they actually do things that they say that they are going to do. You have to keep ringing to get anything done, and each time you're waiting an hour! Thirdly, their download cap system doesn't warn you when you get near or hit the cap, and doesn't slow you down either, so you can get a nasty surprise unless you check your usage pretty much daily. Fourthly, on their main site they claim Steam usage is unmetered, this is not correct, Steam is only unmetered if you download from their server which has a limited range and requires high technical expertise to ensure you only download from that server. Also, they don't get new games/patches in very quickly at all. Echoing most other people here, STAY AWAY. Even Telecom are better than these guys!

    First of all....

    REVIEW:

First of all had issue signing up i registered online and got confirmation but after a two day wait and not hearing anything i contacted them to find out i was not on there system. From there had a over two week wait for Genius connection at a new address, then on the day of connection had to chase to see were it was at! They said there were issues at the exchange and would need to return and would take longer to connect. There was no email no phone call no update what so ever after chasing and chasing i eventually cancelled. Telecom signed me up within in 48 hrs!!!

I am looking for a new ISP

    THE BAD:

Customer service was and still is appalling.

    THE BOTTOM LINE:

My business of $4k per year is going elsewhere.

    REVIEW:

The reason i'm at this page is because i am looking for a new isp as the experience i have had with orcon is terrible. I am a business customer and twice they cut off my internet and phone lines through negligence. Customer service was and still is appalling. They don't even bother replying or responding to calls, messages etc. > I have to lie to get through to a supervisor who then apologizes and makes promises but then does nothing and wont return calls. I have been through 2 x supervisors like this. I cant believe how they just don't care. Needless to say my business of $4k per year is going elsewhere.

FInally got through to someone to say I had sold my house and was leaving, and the new owner just contacted me 2 weeks after I shifted out to say Orcon still have the phone line connected. I requested for a connection 12th May

    REVIEW:

I requested for a connection 12th May , next day they came back with an email saying either Slingshot have to move line to unbundled or I need to cancel the account with them. I cancelled the account with Slingshot on 16 th May and informed Orcon. Till today 30.5.11 no connection yet. Excuse, Telecom is not providing the port. Rang Telecom they said Orcon has exceeded their quota hence waiting until some body make a move or cancel, Made numerous calls to Orcon . Left with no phone and internet for more than 2 weeks . promised to connect today 30.5.11, fingers crossed.

    Broadly similar story to Garcia

    REVIEW:

I call Orcon on Friday to take up their Best Plan Ever. I get quoted a changeover date of 4 May. Sweet. On 6 May that I'm "up and running". No biggie, two days late and everything works just fine - the same as Vodafone service and a fair bit cheaper! Sunshine and butterflies, etc. On Saturday I find that the reason there's been no difference in service is that I'm still on Vodafone, not Orcon, as the transfer wasn't actually done. After two hours on the phone to the call centre I put Orcon details into the modem - net stops working altogether of course. Spend Sunday with phone and no internet. Not much fun but surely it won't get any worse than this? Today (Monday afternoon) Vodafone switch off our phone, but Orcon still haven't turned our phone and Internet on. Hence we have no phone or net service at all. Call Orcon from work phone, who tell me they will get a tech out on Tuesday night at the earliest... Haven't given a rating for connection speed and value - these might well be great - but all I have experience of right now is poor customer service and tech support. Impression given on Friday was that it would be done in a doddle midweek, now we're cut off, partner is furious and I don't know how much Vodafone will bill us for the part month when we should have been with Orcon already...
