    Moved from Vodafone to Orcon

    THE GOOD:

    Orcon has proven to be more stable and faster provider overall.

    THE BOTTOM LINE:

    I am very happy with the service provided.

    REVIEW:

    Moved from Vodafone to Orcon about two years ago. Had previously had issues with dropping out and latency on gaming. Orcon has proven to be more stable and faster provider overall. Customer service has been very good and is always followed by a "how did we do" email to make sure the problem was solved. I also had a query that they answered withing 24 hours but obviously went away and thought about a bit more and emailed me back about a week later with a more detailed explanation. I am very happy with the service provided. Many people don't seem to realise that faulty wiring in their homes and modems aren't the ISP's problem.

    appalled by service. would NOT recommend. I have a medical condtition which requires me to have a landline fone in case of emergency. We explained this to orcon two weeks before we moved in and the date to be connected was the day we moved in. 10 days of calling after we moved in and still no connection. when we finally got it we were told we would be reinbursed for the days we missed. when i got my statement i had a $120 typo mistake, $2 charge that was not mean't to be there and no reinburment watsoever. it took over an hour of debating to get them to even see the problem. i was told to not pay the bill until it has changed by one of the orcon staff. several fone calls later nothing has been done. orcon has now disconnected my fone for not paying a bill that was not correct in the first place. leaving me with no fone when they know I could die if i'm on my own and not able to contact anyone to come to my aid. if you have a medical condition don't use these people. they don't know what they are doing. it got so ridiculous that i was asked to extend the powercord to get internet connected??? coz thats gonna do anything!

    I was with them for 2 years (non contract) had 4 faults with them each one took at least a month of calling to get fixed.

    THE BOTTOM LINE:

    Cannot be bothered.

    Useless service. I was with them for 2 years (non contract) had 4 faults with them each one took at least a month of calling to get fixed. Cancelled service in Nov active Dec, still getting invoices in May, despite calling emailing etc. Being polite does not work nor does being rude. I timed the call centre on last 4 calls, 47min. 39, 43, 51 to answer. One of these they hung up one me because I was on speaker phone, I herd hello twice then line went dead, give us a break I had to cross the room. These guys are like Telecom was 10 years ago, (I dont know what T/condom are like now). As for internet service, Im off the grid save $100pm. Cannot be bothered.

    On the 24th April we loss our connection; nearly two weeks latter and Orcon say its due to Cabinetisation (that took 12 days to come up with!!!) and that if we want service we will need to pay for it as a new connection ($99), or enter into a 12mth contract with a $149 early exit fee if we aren't happy!!!! plus pay an extra $11/mth going to get the same thing had before!!!! You have to be joking, not happy is an understatement!!! I have had our business web hosting with Orcon for years and years, plus home ISP, in one act they have lost it and had a complaint laid with the TDR for this appalling piece of business.

    Looking to move to a new ISP.

Looking to move to a new isp. - Still a relatively slow download speed ~4MB - No 24x7 support - 30min+ support wait time each time you call - No support call back facility - No warning when you are about to exceed your cap - 30 day notification for cancelling plan even if their support and service have deteriorated significantly - Messy website

    I have been with orcon from their start up

    REVIEW:

    I have been with orcon from their start up in Auckland and initially they were great. Then things stared to slide as they grew, but they were still okay to deal with. When we shifted to Chch (rolleston) I decided to stay with them as their sevice had been adequate and I didnt want the hassle of dealing with a new provider (emails etc). Little did I know that it would be nearly a month before I got a phone line and 6 months before I could get broadband (the roadside cabinet was full apparently). Then after a few months we had faults with the system and eventually a total failure. After calling everyday for weeks and getting the run around (not to mention having to explain everything everytime to a new person - yes and being promised return calls too that never happened) they decided it was the modem so they sent me a new one (but no return bag for the old one). Still not working so I suggested maybe the cabinet had a fault and was told that it must be the house connection as the cabinet had been checked. After three weeks of arguements they got the cabinet checked again and it was fine, but during a discussion with a chorus tech he said the whole area had been temporarily down graded from adsl2+ to adsl whlie servicing was carried out (no time to complete, just an open ended work period). I then rang Orcon again (spending the obligitory 40mins on hold) when I had to explain the whole story again and then mentioned the degrading of service which meant I would have to be switched to a different operator and they cut me off. So ring again and 40mins of holding again I again explained my story (gave them my number if I got cut off again) and got put through to tech services who then advised me that my orcon modem wasnt compatibe with adsl (not backwards compatible - WTF?) so a new older model one was dispatched. It didnt work and after mucking around I found the modem was faulty. I rang again (yep another 40mins of crappy music) told them there was a fault and that this modem needed replacing. Had to go through the whole saga again and in the end demanded a new modem from a supervisor who grudgingly did so (oh yeah and sent out the free courier bags for returning the previous ones - almost still got a spare one here they didnt send enough bags). They tested the modem they sent out (it was faulty and had been returned previously because of the same fault - hadnt been fixed before dispatch to me). Did I get a refund through their mistakes? NO. did I get an appology? NO. Will I stick with them again? NO. Looking for a new provider but they are all pirates where I am and I dont relish being shafted by a provider again so what are my options? Telecom or telstraclear who rate almost the same as orcon - bugger!

    Kia ora all - very interested to read the above - had thought my problems mght be my modem but now highly suspicious about this ISP - does anyone else have issues with the net just dropping out every 10mins or so - especially at peak times - amazing that doesn't seem to happen at 6am!! so thinking my modem may be fine after all. Any information be great. They were great to start with and haven't yet tried tech support but feel warned now - thanks

    I am in Mt Eden and get PS 33ms DL 8.3/128 UL

    THE BAD:

    Can be an issue calling through the help desk sometimes

    THE BOTTOM LINE:

    Happy but would switch to another premium provider for a good deal

    REVIEW:

    Been with Orcon for 12months. Can be an issue calling through the help desk sometimes and would recommend emailing if you can. Get weird dates on statements sometimes with apology emails about an clerical issue coming through. I am in Mt Eden and get PS 33ms DL 8.3/128 UL Happy but would switch to another premium provider for a good deal.

    Atrotious. I have been with webworld for 7 years now. They use orcon as the isp abd over the past 2 years, The internet has been turtle slow. Were promiced 10mb's conect, We get 1.3mb's conection untill now were we are getting 200Bites! per second. Webworld says its orcon. Orcon says they cant do a thing because were through webworld. Every call taking over an hour just to get through to someone! When it takes a day to load 1 international website. The ISP is crap

    Exactly as per Mike above. Went with Genius. No help at the other end of the line. Call don't come through. Either not available or the number is not in service. I haven't even had a response to my emails. Had to email as I can't get through on the phone!!!!. How do i get rid of this crap service!!! Why can't I score a zero!!!
